Renewable fuel reduces your cost and carbon
Biomass boilers are becoming increasingly popular due to the carbon savings the fuel delivers and the cost savings achievable, particularly in light of financial incentives. The technology is increasingly being specified on both new and renovated buildings.
Oakes Energy designs, supplies, installs and maintains biomass energy systems. Our experienced engineers will explain the different biofuel options available and make recommendations for a suitable system for your property.
Biomass typically offers you carbon reductions of around 90% compared to traditional fossil fuel heating systems. This makes it a particularly efficient way to meet your requirements under Part L of the Building Regulations.
You can have biomass fuels delivered direct to your property. Biomass fuels are based on plant materials that can be grown locally and across the world. There are 3 main sources of biomass wood fuel:
Wood Pellets – Typically the most expensive form of wood fuel, but very easy to manage. Deliveries can be made by blow wagons for bulk loads, or pallets of bagged pellets for smaller loads.
Wood Chip – Approximately half the price of wood pellets, and can be produced locally from lower grade timber, required larger more expensive handling systems – generally for larger installations only.
Wood Log – Usually the cheapest form of wood heating, but requires the owner to manually fill the boiler once a day, which can be a big commitment.
We can help you access the various funding routes available to finance biomass systems. The RHI scheme provides on-going incentive payments, linked to the amount of energy produced, for many different types of property; the RHPP provides grants to part-fund the purchase of biofuel boilers for ‘off-gas’ domestic properties, currently set at £2000. Both schemes are Government-backed.
The RHI (Renewable Heating Incentive) is the biggest driver of the industry at the minute, the commercial scheme has been in place since 2011 and the domestic scheme is due to start in April 2014. With the RHI you are paid for each kWh of heat produced from a renewable source, and biomass gives very good returns, making converting to biomass from oil or LPG a very attractive proposition.
You can use biomass successfully for heating and power production at any scale, so is suitable for a wide range of applications. Unlike some other renewable technologies which could have periods of non-production, biomass boilers can operate continuously, providing you with constant, reliable heating.
We predominantly specify the Austrian ETA brand of biomass units, we are very impressed by the quality and flexibility of these units. We are fully product trained and can advise on the best for your needs. We do however have access to a range of different brands and will always specify the correct boiler for the requirements.
