Oakes Energy Services, a prominent provider of renewable energy solutions, is proud to announce the appointment of Nik Smith as its new Director. With a wealth of experience in HVAC and renewables, Nik Smith’s strategic leadership will propel the growth and expansion of the company.
Nik’s appointment comes at an opportune time as Oakes Energy Services opens a new, additional office in Newcastle, dedicated to housing its commercial team.
As part of PHS, which is better known for its 0800-repair brand and is a leading home services firm in the UK, Oakes Energy Services plays a vital role in providing dedicated renewable energy solutions, including air and ground source heating, solar PV, and traditional heating, to both domestic and commercial markets. The company’s ultimate parent company is Viessmann, a renowned German engineering company with operations in 74 countries and approximately 14,000 employees, boasting a turnover of four billion euros.
Nik Smith’s impressive engineering background spans over three decades, beginning as an apprentice at Crown Housing Engineering. He has since delivered major projects for ABB, a Swedish engineering giant, and was headhunted to lead significant projects in New Zealand for Australasia’s largest HVAC specialist, the Hastie Group.
Returning to the UK, Nik established and managed his award-winning HVAC businesses for more than 20 years before recently selling them to investors. His extensive qualifications and memberships in prestigious engineering organisations, such as the UK Engineering Council and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, demonstrate his expertise and commitment to the industry.
Joining Nik in Oakes Energy Services’ growing commercial team is Michael Simmons, taking on the role of General Manager. With over three decades of management experience, Michael will oversee the day-to-day operations and project activities within the company.

Alongside Jason, who has been promoted to PHS Sales Director, the three of us, having been competitors for decades, are thrilled to unite as a team.”
Jason, now taking on the role of PHS Sales Director, expressed his delight in welcoming Nik and Michael to the business. “With Nik and Michael’s expertise and experience, I am confident in their ability to drive Oakes Energy Services forward. Their presence allows me to take on a broader role in the PHS business, focusing on exploring sales opportunities across our various divisions.”
