ABB Stonehouse

Oakes Energy Services designed, installed, and commissioned a 1MW solar farm at ABB Stonehouse, featuring 1,668 JA Solar PV panels, five Solis inverters, and a 500kW battery storage system. This landmark project, the first of four decarbonisation initiatives for ABB, was delivered with zero disruption to production. A tailored energy solution was developed to integrate seamlessly with ABB’s existing infrastructure while meeting G99 and G100 regulations. The modular system design allows for future scalability, and the inclusion of G100 export limitation technology optimises solar usage and enhances grid compliance. A fault detection and isolation system further strengthen operational reliability.

Delivered in five months through meticulous planning and stakeholder collaboration, the project met all regulatory and financial requirements. Out-of-hours work and safety protocols ensured smooth integration, with retrofit switchgear modifications and efficient onsite logistics. Sustainability was prioritised through waste repurposing and energy efficiency gains. The outcome is a reliable, scalable renewable energy system that reduces ABB’s carbon footprint, enhances resilience, and supports long-term decarbonisation goals. Positive client feedback and comprehensive training further underscore the project’s success and replicability for future industrial energy transitions.
