Oakes Energy Services was appointed by Sunderland City Council to deliver a 193.6 kWp rooftop solar PV system at Hetton Swimming Baths as part of the council’s sustainability strategy. The system features 440 x 440W Canadian Solar panels and two SolarEdge inverters, designed to maximise efficiency and provide real-time performance monitoring. Working on a live public site, the team carefully planned and executed the installation with no disruption to daily operations. The project was completed ahead of schedule through effective coordination with council staff and the leisure centre’s management.
In addition to the PV system, a fixed edge protection system was installed to ensure safe, ongoing access for maintenance an enhancement identified during early surveys. Safety remained a top priority throughout, with detailed site planning, controlled access, and temporary exclusion zones implemented. Sunderland City Council praised the professionalism and efficiency of the team, noting the project’s seamless delivery and long-term benefits. The system will now significantly reduce the site’s carbon footprint and energy costs, supporting the council’s wider net-zero ambitions.
