Middle Caves Farm undertook a renewable heating upgrade with the installation of a Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system to serve newly developed units. The system includes field loops connected to four Clausius heat pumps, buffer vessels, and advanced control systems. Designed for phased activation, the system aligned with the farm’s construction schedule, supplying heating as each unit came online. In a cost-saving move, the client reused existing Clausius heat pumps, which required recommissioning and technical support directly from the German manufacturer adding complexity through logistical coordination, remote diagnostics, and manufacturer collaboration.
Oakes Energy Services managed all aspects of the project, including ground surveys, loop installation, and integration of controls. Despite winter installation challenges, live site conditions, and the complexities of international communication, the project was delivered successfully. Strategic planning enabled seamless staging, optimized system performance, and ensured the reused equipment operated at full efficiency. As a result, Middle Caves Farm now benefits from a reliable, low-carbon, and future-proof heating system, reducing both operational costs and environmental impact.
