Oakes Energy Services successfully designed, installed, and commissioned photovoltaic (PV) systems across eight Northern Gas Networks (NGN) sites, including Thorpe Park, Burradon, Washington, Scarborough, Pontefract, Nether Poppleton, Elland, and Carlisle. Secured through a competitive tender based on cost and quality, the £495,000 project aligns with NGN’s sustainability strategy to achieve net zero by 2031. Works included planning support, structural surveys, DNO liaison, MCCB and distribution equipment installation, earthing modifications, PV system setup, AC accessories, fire stopping, digital display boards, and full testing and commissioning. Remote monitoring via an Energy Management System was also implemented.
Despite challenging conditions such as winter weather, difficult site access, and working around live operational environments, Oakes mitigated disruption through strategic planning, traffic management, and weekend work where necessary. Cabling routes were redesigned to avoid conflicts with existing services, and roof safety systems were installed to ensure safe maintenance access. Oakes continues to support NGN’s net zero goals with further site surveys and system designs in progress.
